Working together with your family and the San Diego Regional Center, STEP helps you develop skills that lead to a better future. Your goals and dreams determine the shape and direction of your program. Special attention is paid to your preferences and personal needs. Accessible, adaptive technology is incorporated into the daily schedule or curriculum to facilitate training. Some services such as assistance with medication administration, enteral feeding/hydration, personal care, etc. are available for individuals with specialized needs.
By design, STEP assists developmentally disabled persons with significantly limiting medical conditions or requiring total assistance with personal care and hygiene needs. Depending upon individual needs, STEP may provide the following services based on the Incidental Medical Regulations (Title 22), including:
• Enteral Feeding and Hydration via gastrostomy and jejunostomy
• Medication Administration via mouth or Enteral Tubes
• Use of Inhalation-Assistive Devices, limited to metered aerosols
• Colostomy / Ileostomy Care, limited to emptying ostomy bag and re-applying same as needed
• Insulin-dependent Diabetes to include testing blood glucose level using consumer’s blood glucose monitoring system and assistance with administration of insulin as needed.
• Indwelling Urinary Catheter, limited to emptying the bag
All staff are trained on basic CPR and First Aid. A licensed nurse is employed full time to train and monitor direct care staff who provide the services daily. The licensed nurse is on-site to evaluate and assess consumer changes of condition and to communicate with care providers and family. |
